FLUID MECHANICS

4.5.1. The limits of Bernoulli’s Equation

Bernoulli’s Equation is the most important and useful equation in fluid mechanics. It may
                       be written,

                                                  v 2 p v 2 p
                                             z + 1 + 1 = z + 2 + 2
                                              1
                                                  2g  1 2g 

Bernoulli’s Equation has some restrictions in its applicability, they are :

                          ▪ the flow is steady

                          ▪ the density is constant (which also means the fluid is compressible)

                          ▪ friction losses are negligible

                          ▪ the equation relates the state at two points along a single streamline (not

                             conditions on two different streamlines).
