FLUID MECHANICS

                 Exercise

                                                                  2
                          1. Pressure by a Barometer is 500kN/m . Find the pressure in the expression for the
head, h if the fluid in the barometer is:

                          i). Water

                          ii). Mercury

iii). Oil with relative density, S = 0.9

                                            Ans: 50.96 m of water, 3.75 m of mercury and 56.63 m of oil

                          2. A Bourdon pressure gauge attached to a boiler located at sea level shows a reading
pressure 10 bar. If atmospheric pressure is 1.01 bar, express:

                                                            2
i). The absolute pressure in kN/m

                                                                                         2
ii). The pressure head of water, h Ans : 1101kN/m , 101.94 meter

                          3. A pressure gauge is attached to a reservoir containing water which shows value of

                                  2
                          20kN/m . Express:
i). The pressure head of water, h

                                                                                                   2
ii). The absolute pressure in bar if the atmospheric pressure is 101.3kN/m .
                                                                                Ans : 2.04 meter, 1.213bar
