2.4.2 Roles of Bursa Malaysia
- As a platform to sell securities to the investing public by offering a range of
exchange-related services and products. These include trading, clearing,
settlement and depository services, along with products such as bonds, equities,
and derivatives.
- Bursa Malaysia provides information regarding the stocks and its market.
- Bursa Malaysia recognizing and subscribing the context of global capital market.
- Bursa Malaysia also provides information to investors for them to compare the
performance of stocks and manage their portfolios.
- Operate and regulate a fully integrated exchange offering a comprehensive range
of exchange-related facilities including listing, trading, clearing, and settlement
and depository services.
- Enforces regulations by imposing fines and reprimands, supervising stock broking
and listed companies, approving listings and security quotations, regulating
disclosures by listed companies, and controlling admission to the exchange’s
membership.
2.4.3 Main Market and ACE Market
There are two markets available for investor to buy and sell stock in Malaysia, provided
by Bursa Malaysia called Main Market and ACE Market. In year 2012, the exchange has
recorded 826 companies are categorized under Main Market whereas 112 companies are
listed under ACE Market.
ACE is secondary stock market in Bursa Malaysia. (ACE's old name in KLSE is Mesdaq
Market - Malaysian Exchange of Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation). Taking
over from the Mesdaq Market, the ACE Market is different because it opens to companies
of all sectors.
