                     b)    Instrumental values

                           Instrumental values deal with views on acceptable modes of conductor means of

                           achieving the terminal values. These include being honest, sincere, ethical, and being

                           ambitious. These values are more focused on personality traits and character.


               3.7 Employee Personality and Values to the Workplace


                    How well the individual’s personality and values match the organization. Why? Because

                    managers today are less interested in an applicant’s ability to perform a specific job than

                    with his or her flexibility to meet changing situations and commitment to the organization.


                    a)     Person-Job Fit according to John Holland’s Personality-Job Fit Theory

                           The  effort  to  match  job  requirements  with  personality  characteristics  is  best

                           articulated in John Holland’s personality–job fit theory. Figure 3.1, Holland presents
                           six personality types and proposes that satisfaction and the propensity to leave a

                           position depend on how well individuals match their personalities to a job.
