1.6.4 COURT HIERARCHY AND SCOPE OF POWER
Court: A body of men elected or appointed under the
Constitution and laws of a state, and vested with the power of
rendering judgments, issuing writs, or hearing and deciding
appeals. Each member of the Court is called judge or justice, or
sometimes “recorder” or “chancellor.
