1.5.1 Functions of Member of The Bodies (BQSM & RISM)
The Malaysian Board of Quantity Surveyors was founded in 1967
under the Professional Registration Act, which governs the
registration of Quantity Surveyors. The Act mandates that every
QS who has completed their training as a QS register with the
Malaysian Board of Quantity Surveyors. This is to ensure that each
QS's professional services are guaranteed, and that the community
is protected from any professional malpractice. While RISM's
mission is to improve professional practice and ethics, promote
member welfare and professional development, and remain
relevant and useful to the public, it also has other goals.
A person must pass the Test of Professional Competence (Test of
Professional Competence) conducted jointly by the BQSM and the
RISM to register as a registered quantity surveyor (professional
QS), which includes the following:
i. Practical experience carried out in a minimum period of
two years as stated or have professional experience in
a related field under the supervision of a registered
surveyor or a member or Fellow of the Surveyors'
Association (Malaysia) who is a surveyor.
ii. Submission of practice assignments as directed by the
joint panel of the Professional Competency Test.
iii. A written test relates to acquired professional
experience and professional conduct.
