❑ The Institution's first Council Meeting was place on
December 14, 1961, at the Conference Room of Survey
Headquarters, Mountbatten Road. The name of the Institution
was changed to the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia at the
E.G.M on June 19, 1966
❑ On January 23, 1965, the inaugural issue of the ‘Surveyors
Quarterly Gazette' was issued to members. It had 18 pages
and one article in it. The name of the journal was changed to
‘The Surveyor' in 1971, and it was changed again in the first
quarter of 1999 to ‘The Malaysian Surveyor.' From the 10th
to the 14th of December 1974, ISM held its first professional
tests.
❑ On the 19th of June 1976, the Minister of Lands and Mines,
Y.B. Dato' Asri Hj. Muda, placed the Foundation Stone of the
ISM Building in a ceremony attended by several prominent
members of the Institution. The building was constructed and
officially handed over on March 22, 1977.
❑ On March 28, 2011, His Royal Highness the Sultan of
Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum
Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj granted the
Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM) royal title. This is the
first time in Malaysia that a royal honour has been given on a
professional body or non-governmental organisation. The
Institution of Surveyors of Surveyors, Malaysia was renamed
to Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) because of
this.
