CHAPTER 4

                                                       STRUCTURES

               4.1 INTRODUCTION TO STRUCTURES

Structures is something that is designed to support load. Some of common structure are bridge and
building. The objective of studying structure is to figure out the forces being carried out by this

structure and whether this structure can withstand the load applied on it.

A Truss is a structure composed of slender members (two-force members) joined together
at their end points.Truss consist entirely of two force members.Truss are assumed negligible

weight compared to the force acting on it.
A plane truss is one where all the members and joints lie within a 2-dimensional plane There

is an internal and external forces acting on structure.
External forces are the forces or load that act on structure itself.including reaction forces

               from the support.

Internal forces are the forces that develop within every structure when a load is apply to the
structure giving the tension or compression in structure.
