FLUID MECHANICS

3.2 CONCEPT OF PIEZOMETER, BAROMETER AND MANOMETER

               3.2.1 Concept Of Piezometer

If liquid of density ρ, flow through the pipe, the fluid pressure can be measured by

installing a piezometer of a tube in the pipe. Fluid in the piezometer will rise to the height

h of the center line of the pipe like Figure 3.7. Pressure in the pipe center line at this point
                                     2
                       is P = ρgh N/m

                                               Figure 3.7 : Piezometer inside a pipe

                Example 1

                                                                   3
If the liquid in the pipe is water(ρ =1000kg/m ) and h =30cm, calculate pressure in the
                       pipe.

                       Solution :

                              Pressure( P ) = ρgh

                                            = 1000 X 9.81 X 0.3

                                            = 2.9 kN/m 2
