FLUID MECHANICS

               3.2.3 Problems Regarding Manometers

The relationship between pressure and head is utilized for pressure measurement
in the manometer or liquid gauge. We can measure comparatively high pressures and

negative pressures with the manometer. The following are a few types of manometers:

                          a. Simple U-tube manometer

                          b. Differential U-tube manometer

                          c. Inverted differential U-tube manometer and

                          d. Combine U-tube manometer

                          a. Simple U-Tube Manometer

U-tube manometer is used to measure the pressure of playing at the top level

atmospheric pressure. The tube consists of two arms. One end of which is used as a

benchmark point and the other is open to the atmosphere as shown in Figure 3.10.

Liquid used in the manometer tube is easily bent or generally mercury 13.6 times
heavier than water. Therefore, it is also suitable for measuring high pressure.

                                                                            ωhg
