MEDICAL AND HEALTH INSURANCE
They manage all types of illness at an early stage of development, which
may require urgent intervention.
The holistic approach of general practice aims to take into consideration
the biological, psychological, and social factors relevant to the care of each
patient's illness. Their duties are not confined to specific organs of the
body, and they have skills in treating people with multiple health issues.
They are trained to treat patients of any age and sex, at levels of
complexity that may vary between different localities.
General practitioners have early detection responsibilities and can
determine the correct course of treatment or refer t patient with serious
diseases to a specialist. At the same time general practitioners also play a
role in preventive care; those of health education and immunisation
programs.
In the managed-care organisation program, where the system offers
controlled access to specialists, general practitioners act as 'gate-keepers'
in referrals to specialist treatment. Besides such gatekeeping, general
practitioners have a duty of care to help the patient to choose and obtain
appropriate care from the available healthcare services.
1.5.2 CONSULTANTS
Medical consultants are generally involved in the secondary and tertiary
care aspects, and they are either with the public sector or private sector. In
the private sector they can be associated with hospitals, or they can have
their own private clinics independently or with other group professionals.
Today there are many specialists located within the same building in the
Kiang valley, offering different specialties of medical treatment.
