However, the amount of coverage for normal birth is generally lower than
caesarean, which is a more complicated procedure.
It is also generally extended to cover accidental miscarriage but excludes
self-abortion and pre and post-natal complications depending on the
product features.
CRITICAL ILLNESS INSURANCE
Critical illness insurance is sold as an optional rider to a life policy or a
standalone life or health insurance policy. The policy makes a lump sum
payment if the Insured is diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses as
listed in the policy. The policy is automatically terminated upon payment
of the sum assured and no further cover or sum will be payable if death
occurs subsequently.
LONG-TERM CARE INSURANCE
Long-term care is the care given for chronic illnesses or disabilities over a
long period of time. This can include medical, social or other supportive
services. The services can be provided by family members or friends or by
specially trained caregivers. The objective of long-term care is to minimise,
rehabilitate or compensate for the chronic illness or the inability to
perform normal daily activities.
Long-term care insurance is normally sold as a rider to a life policy or
attached to a group PMI policy and not on an individual standalone policy.
It is not popular currently in Malaysia as the concept of caregiver still lies
within the family circle. Most long-term care policies do not provide cover
