1.0 QUANTITY SURVEYING PROFESSION
1.1 Background of Quantity Surveying Profession
❑ A quantity surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction
industry. "Cost engineers," "cost planners," and "cost
controllers" are all terms used to describe Quantity
Surveyors.
❑ A quantity surveyor is a professional that specializes in
estimating the cost of construction projects. Quantity
surveyors will use their expertise to take off the proposed
building's quantity and assess the cost of building work
ranging from minor renovations to major construction
projects.
❑ Developers, Architects, Contractors, Building Owners, and
Government Bodies and Agencies are all common clients for
Quantity Surveyors. Cost planning, cost management,
Contract Administration, project procurement, feasibility
studies, and asset financial management are all services
provided by quantity surveyors.
❑ The objectives of a Quantity Surveyor are to reduce or
eliminate project cost and maximizing the value of a proposed
project. Quantity Surveyors increase value for money to a
developer or end user client or increase profit margins for the
primary contractor or subcontractor, while still meeting the
agreed-upon standards and staying within the contract
schedule.
