3.2 Functions of Procurement
❑ The procurement process entails identifying and putting in
place specific steps to ensure that they can obtain goods and
services to meet their requirements and reach their goals.
❑ The procurement process is critical because it determines
how much money a business or organization can save.
❑ The procurement methods used in the construction industry
will influence the type of contract systems used for project
execution. There are several different procurement methods
in the construction industry. A suitable type of contract
(procurement method) will be selected based on the client's
requirements during the project planning stage.
❑ The objectives of procurement strategies are: -
i. Get the best value for money and reap the benefit
from the project implemented.
ii. Ensure that work is of acceptable quality.
iii. Encourage the expansion of local industries that are tied
to it.
iv. Comply with the government's goals and policies.
v. Fulfill the technological transfer requirement.
