characteristics. A person with a high level of job satisfaction holds positive feelings
about his or her job, while a person with a low level holds negative feelings.
b) Job Involvement
Related to job satisfaction is job involvement, which measures the degree to which
people identify psychologically with their job and consider their perceived
performance level important to self-worth. The degree to which a person identifies
with a job, actively participates in it, and considers performance important to self-
worth. Employees with a high level of job involvement strongly identify with and really
care about the kind of work they do. High job involvement is also related to reduced
absences and lower resignation rates.
c) Organizational Commitment
The degree to which an employee identifies with a particular organization and its goals
and wishes to maintain membership in the organization. High job involvement -
identifying one’ specific job, while high organizational commitment - identifying with
one’s employing organization.
2.4 Definition of Job Satisfaction
Job satisfaction refers to positive feeling about one’s job resulting from an evaluation of its
characteristic. A person with high level of job satisfaction holds positive feelings about the
job, while person who is dissatisfied holds negative feelings about the job. Job satisfaction
occurs when a job meets the expectations, values and standards of an individual and will
influence their commitment and performance. A person's degree of satisfaction would
automatically have an impact and effect on the daily activities and work outcomes.
