7.3 Ways to Sustain Organizational Culture


                    a)    Selection Process

                          The  objective  of  the  selection  process  is  to  identify  and  hire  individuals  with  the

                          knowledge,  skills,  and  abilities  to  perform  successfully.  Manager  has  to  make  a
                          decision of how well the candidates will fit into the organization, identifies people

                          whose values are essentially consistent with an organization. Selection also provides

                          information to applicants. Those who perceive a conflict between their values with
                          the organization can remove themselves from the applicant pool. Selection allowing

                          employer or applicant to avoid a mismatch and sustaining an organization’s culture

                          by selecting out those who might attack or undermine its core values.


                    b)    Socialization Process

                          Socialization is a process that adapts employees to the organization’s culture.  A

                          socialization model is shown in Figure 7.1.

                          Pre  Arrival  stage  -  The  period  of  learning  in  the  socialization  process  that  occurs

                          before a new employee joins the organization. Each individual arrives with a set of
                          values, attitudes and expectations about both the work and the organization.
