● Unfreezing - The first step in the change process involves encouraging
individuals to discard or abandon old behavior by shaking up the equilibrium of
maintaining the status quo.
● Changing - The second step in the transformation process, where new attitudes,
values and behavior are substituted for the old ones.
● Refreezing – The final step involves the establishment of new attitudes, values
and behaviors as the new status quo of the employees.
b) Kotter’s Eight Step Plan
John Kotter’s Eight Step plan model is a popular framework for successfully
implementing organizational change and is used across many industries. The first four
steps in Kotter’s model focus on Lewin’s freezing stage. Step 5 to 7 represent the
movement stage and the final steps portrays the refreezing stage. The contribution of
Kotter’s model will be able to provide managers and change agent with a detail guide
for successfully implementing change.
