2.2.3 The Engineer
❑ Structural engineers design a building's skeleton or
framework. Other engineering fields include civil, M&E, fire,
acoustic, and other specializations.
❑ Engineers strive to make sure their designs meet certain
requirements, such as being safe, serviceable, and
performing effectively. They must remain sturdy and safe
throughout their lifespan, not bending, twisting, collapsing, or
vibrating.
❑ Engineers, like architects, want the constructed product to
match the performance standards.
❑ Engineers will keep track of the project's development and
provide updates as needed. They should inspect the work
after it begins and provide feedback to the contractors. They
are frequently asked to sign off on a subcontractor's
installation, accepting responsibility for any failure, therefore
they should be well-versed on product and material choices.
