The underwriter will always examine the severity of the medical conditions and the
possibility of recurrence or relapse of the condition or related conditions. Insurer
Company must ask or incorporate in their application or proposal form to solicit the
medical history or medical conditions. Types of question should be asked in the
proposal forms are:
Currently receiving medical treatment and/or suffering from physical
impairment, congenital abnormality or poor health?
Ever been treated for or have been told of having any illness, disease or injury?
Has been hospitalised or undergone any surgical operation or observation or
treatment not of a routine nature?
Currently insured under any other medical or health insurance?
Application for medical or renewal for health insurance policy been declined,
restricted or accepted at other than normal terms?
This is only a general guide and the insurer will normally expand the questionnaire in
further detail and ask more specific questions, which point the applicant to the
answers required.
The other related factors that need to be consider by the underwriter are:
gender
age
start date of the illness, duration, and severity
frequency of symptoms
types of treatment received
Present state of health that is fully recovered and or still under treatment.
4.2.1 MEDICAL UNDERWRITING
In the application of medical insurance policy, the principle of utmost good faith
applies to the consumer declaring all information that is deemed relevant as
requested by the insurer.
